On Saturday, June 13, I will be part of a streamed live coding music set on KSDT Radio, courtesy of my colleague Myles Ortiz-Green. The stream will be available through:
The set is a collaboration with two amazing musicians, Myles Ortiz-Green and Josh Mitchell, bringing together live coding music in TidalCycles, live visuals in Hydra, and experimental electronic sound of our creation. The audience will be hearing the signature playful, pattern-based textures often associated with TidalCycles, and experimental noise-based materials built from samples of our own voices. I will also be working in Hydra, a browser-based live coding environment, to create real-time visuals that co-evolve with the sound.
This collaboration is also part of a larger hope to start a laptop orchestra tradition here at UC San Diego possibly under the name of Triton Laptop Orchestra (TLorK). Through practice, we have all developed interests in the instability, immediacy, and occasional absurdity of networked systems. Personally, I have also discovered a special joy in gently messing with my colleagues’ code in real time.
Saturday, June 13, on KSDT Radio.
